Ng Kah Wei, Alicia (M. Clin Psych)
Ms. Ng Kah Wei or more fondly known as Alicia is a senior clinical psychologist and the Managing Partner at Growing Space KL. She obtained her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology in 2011 from HELP University, Malaysia. She worked in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (Singapore) for the next 3 years where she gained vast experience serving inpatients and outpatients with depression, anxiety, pain, grief and trauma on top of their chronic illness. She further expanded her experience working with individuals, families, and couples upon her return to Malaysia. Developing her interest in pain, she took notice that what is commonly known or seen as depression, anxiety and other emotional difficulties are often symptoms that speaks of a deeper emotional pain. When this underlying emotional pain is not addressed promptly or sufficiently, it sometimes can manifest into larger symptoms and greater difficulties. This reaffirms her belief to continuously inspire her clients to look beyond the symptoms and to reconnect to themselves and their pain (emotional and/or physical) differently, moving towards a more authentic and integrated self.
Her approach with children takes on a more creative route. She incorporates Sandplay Therapy in her sessions as children work through their emotional difficulties best through play. Through Sandplay Therapy children are able communicate their inner struggles and desires that they cannot express in verbal language. Alicia also lead a social skills group for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and social communication difficulties through Lego®-based Therapy. Beyond the therapy room, she spends time supervising postgraduate students and serves an adjunct lecturer at a private university.
Currently serving as an Industrial Advisor at UTAR, she plays key role in providing input about current and future industry needs and trends. In her free time, she finds simple joy in reading a good book and painting.
