Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest that is different from mood fluctuations that occurs in daily life. Depression is an ongoing problem where it may last for several weeks, months or years. As depression varies from person to person it may sometimes be difficult to recognise or identify if you or your loved ones is depressed.  Here are some of the common signs and symptoms of depressions which includes:

  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Loss of interest in daily activity 
  • Appetite or weight changes
  • Anger or irritability
  • Feeling fatigued, sluggish and physically drained

In teens, they may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Withdrawing from friends and family
  • Difficulty concentrating on schoolwork 
  • Refusing to go to school 
  • Feeling guilty, helpless, or worthless

In children, they may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Refusing to go to school
  • Irritability
  • Crying
  • Low energy
  • Clinginess
  • Defiant behavior
