Trauma & Abuse

Trauma is often the result of extremely stressful events that involves a threat to life or safety that leaves the individual feeling overwhelmed. Trauma could be caused by a one-time event such as an accident/natural disaster/loss of loved ones/ or it could also be caused by ongoing, constant stress such as dealing with abuse or bullying. Some disorders relating to trauma include Acute Stress Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Each person responds differently to traumatic events, but common symptoms include:

  • Staying away from people
  • Insomnia or nightmares
  • Bed wetting (especially in children)
  • Agitated
  • Anxious or frightened easily
  • Anger
  • Difficulties coping at work or school

If you or your loved ones are experiencing any of the symptoms above, feel free to contact us for an appointment or for further consultation. Individuals who have undergone a traumatic event are able to adapt and cope with the experience if provided with the right support.
