Yip Kah Mun, Carmen

(M. Clin Psych)

Ms Carmen Yip pursued her Master’s in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cyberjaya (UoC). She completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) at HELP University with Distinction. Her exposure to the mental health profession started when she was an undergraduate intern where she worked as a clinical psychologist assistant at a private psychology center. She also volunteered to teach at-risk children with basic literacy skills and worked as a personal trainer to train children with special needs for school readiness programmes. Before pursuing her Master’s, she worked as an ABA therapist at Autism Link for a year to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to improve their learning, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning through behavioral interventions.

During her Master’s training, she was placed in various clinical settings such as private psychiatric clinics, psychological and training centers, where she conducted psychological assessments and interventions for all ages, from children to the elderly. Her experiences had equipped her with the fundamental clinical skills to work closely with different clinical populations. These ranged from insomnia, anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, PTSD, neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders

As a therapist, she aspires to foster a safe and supportive environment for her clients to feel, heal, and grow in therapy. She believes that addressing the unaddressed psychological issues or unmet needs behind the presenting symptoms is crucial in the therapeutic process. In her practice, she incorporates integrative approaches such as person-centered, humanistic, existential, cognitive-behavioral, and systemic approaches in helping clients build meaningful connections with their struggles at both individual and collective level. Her personal experience of overcoming emotional struggles in the past enables her to empathize and embrace vulnerabilities when working with clients. Beyond her practice, she actively engages in expressive arts and self-care activities to ground herself before holding emotional space for her clients to heal.
